My dining room sat empty for months as I pondered what kind of table I wanted. Then one day Ana White posted plans for the Benchwright Farmhouse Table and I knew it was the one! We worked on this project over the course of several months. Most of the boards were cut with my Japanese hand saws. I just love using handsaws for cutting boards. After experiencing the circular saw kickback on me on more than one occasion, I feel more at ease cutting the boards manually. This was the first project we worked on that required angle cuts.
Like my rustic x console, we battled with warped boards. We did splurge on select pine for the top, but the option did not exist for the other sizes (the 2×2 boards were the worse).
We used Rust-Oleum’s Dark Walnut for the stain and we applied a few coats of Minwax Wipe-On Poly.
Here is the finished table as it sits in the dinning room:
I am happy with how it turned out. I really like how dark the stain is. I do, however, wish I applied one more coat of poly and used wood filler on some of the gaps between the table’s top. We have been using this table for about 2 years now, and I now have my eyes on the plans for the Husky Farmhouse Table. I just have not been able to convince my husband to build a new table yet.
Soon! Someday soon!
