I found a crochet pattern for a really adorable lion mane bonnet from the Etsy shop Bowtykes. I purchased the pattern, gathered the supplies and sat down one evening to finish the bonnet.
The Tools and Supplies
Here’s a list of the items I gathered to make the bonnet:
- Lion Brand Yarns Homespun (Wild Fire)
- Lion Brand Yarns Vanna Choice (Mustard)
- Size I (5.5mm) Crochet Hook
- Scissors
- Yarn Needle
The Vanna Choice Mustard yarn was leftover from a previous project. I purchased the Homespun Wild Fire yarn at Michaels.
Crocheting the Bonnet
The pattern is well written and easy to follow. It took a few hours to complete. The most tedious part, as always, was putting it all together.
Once I finished attaching all Homespun tassels, I wanted to give the bonnet’s hair a little trim. In the process I clipped the bonnet body and to my horror it started to unravel. I applied some Fabric Glue, and was able to salvage the bonnet body.
The Finished Bonnet
I am very pleased with how the lion mane came out! I was a little sad that to part ways with it (it will be used as a photo prop for a friend). I may just make another one for myself!
